Nights Away Changes PDF Print

The main changes are listed below 

  • The Nights Away Permit Scheme is a National Scheme 
  • A new category has been introduced for Lightweight Expeditions
  • A holder of a current First Aid permit MUST be present at Nights Away events
  • Permits are not section specific
  • There are no prerequisites to applying for a permit (e.g. Module 16)
  • The approval for Nights Away events lies with the Home DC.

Reminder of Nights Away Conditions

  • A Nights Away Notification Form must be completed and forwarded to the District Commissioner for each Nights Away experience.
  • A Nights Away experience needs to include someone with a Nights Away Permit, unless the leader is being assessed for a Nights Away permit.
  • A Risk Assessment must be completed for all Nights Away Experiences (and all Scout Activities)
  • The Home Contact system must be in place for all Nights Away Experiences
  • For cubs, a ratio of 1 adult to 8 youngsters must be observed with a minimum of 2 adults.
  • For scouts, a ratio of 1 adult to 12 youngsters must be observed with a minimum of 2 adults.
  • All adults taking part in Nights away experiences must have undergone appropriate Disclosure (Scotland) checks.
