It's recommended that ALL Districts and Groups register with OSCR.
To qualify for Gift Aid, Groups and Districts MUST be registered.
As Charity Trustees - District and Group trustees - Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary are subject to Disclosure Scotland checks and should be registered on the Membership Management System.
The Charities References in Documents (Scotland) Regulations 2007 affect all relevant documents issued or signed on behalf of charities after 31st March 2008.
As well as the published OSCR guidance, the regulator has also advised "the primary aim of the Regulations is to provide clarity to the general public regarding whether or not a body has charitable status. OSCR's general view is that the regulations apply only to external documents that are intended for general circulation. Internal correspondence between charity trustees, staff, volunteers and members of a charity is not required by the regulations to comply, although we recommend such documents should comply as a matter of good practice.
